Tassilo Lopes Coelho is a Portuguese/ German documentary filmmaker, editor and photojournalist. Throughout his career, he has lived and worked in several regions, including Latin America, Eastern Asia, Southern Africa and Europe.
In 2021, he directed the feature film “La Soledad de Gaudí” in Barcelona, exploring the socio-cultural impact and community response during the lockdowns, while drawing poetic parallels to the architect’s life. The film was co-financed by the Goethe Foundation and has been released on the streaming platform FILMIN.
The film “Espérame” (2023), a collaboration with the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Mexico, portrays the human element throughout migration crisis across the country. The film was officially selected at the International Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City (DocsMX) and exhibited in various cinemas across Switzerland.
In 2025 he directed the film “DAGU” in the province Guangdong in China, a collaboration with Beijing Normal University. The film explores cultural preservation through the story of an elderly Yao woman teaching her granddaughter embroidery, a tradition passed down through generations to record and share stories in place of a written language.
